YOU NEED DIRECTION!

The GPS was created for people just like YOU. The person who knows where they need to go, but doesn’t always know how to get there. You can try and figure it out on your own, or you can ask for directions.

Based on your quiz results you are ready to get focused in your assignment, you just need some support knowing How to get to the destination. You need DIRECTION.

Someone once said, “the fastest way to get to your destination is not always the shortest route.” The good news is it doesn’t have to be the longest either.

YOUR DIRECTION ROADMAP

Below you will find strategic steps to helping you gain greater DIRECTION as you walk in your purpose and assignment with focus.

DECIDE YOU WILL BE DEDICATED – As children, we were so good at determining our destination. “When I grow up, I want to be a (fill in the blank).” We usually didn’t know the path to getting there, but that didn’t matter, we were determined and dedicated to the destination. It is this childlike confidence and determination that you will use as you start moving in the direction of your assignment. Nehemiah built a wall in 52 days. He dedicated himself to the work without even knowing all of the opposition he would experience. Your dedication to your assignment will invite God’s favor on the journey. Take some time to pray and ask God to strengthen you for the work ahead and dedicate yourself to the process. Begin with the end in mind.  

IDENTIFY YOUR PATH – In between where you are and where you will be is what you must do. I often ask God to bless the work of my hand (see Deut. 28:12). This is an acknowledgment that in order for me to partner with Him, I have to do my part. The pathway to your destination is where you partner with God in the plan He has for you. In a practical sense, part of the path for me as a speaker was seeking out coaching while as a writer it was drafting up a proposal. I knew the destination was for me to be a writer and speaker, and it was this knowledge that helped me identify the path. What is your path? What practical steps do you need to take to get moving toward your destination? 

RECOGNIZING YOUR RESPONSIBILITY – When God calls us to an assignment, we have a responsibility as followers of Christ to accomplish His will. When our vision is less than this, we will find that anything can pull us away from fulfilling our assignment. Recognizing our responsibility means embracing the reality that some things we may have to do (or to start) alone because He has given the task to us. Being given a responsibility by God is an honor. What responsibility has He given you? Remember, our “well done” will be based on the work we HAVE done in obedience to Him.

EMBRACE THE PROCESS – When it comes to revealing things, God often operates in one of two ways. One, as a light unto our path, revealing things in the distance as we travel the pathway to our destination and two, as a lamp unto our feet, only sharing with us the necessary next steps. Whichever way He decides to bring revelation, it ultimately always happens by His time and in His way. It is our responsibility (although it may be difficult at times) to trust the process. The smooth roads, bumpy places, surprising potholes, and roadside assistance are all part of the reaching the final destination. Learn to embrace the process when it’s ugly and when it’s beautiful. 

CLEAR YOUR MIND – It’s time to get to the root of the clutter so that you can focus on what matters. In order to hear and heed direction, we must learn to declutter our mind. It is time to acknowledge, accept, and embrace the reality that a cluttered mind has been in combat with the clarity that God intended for you to have. You can have the mind of Christ, and the mind of Christ is free from clutter.  

TELL YOUR TIME – Similar to how a financial budget helps us tell our dollars how we will spend them, we have to tell our time how we will spend it. We have been given the gift of time and the opportunity to determine what we will do with it. We all get the same 24 hours in a day, yet we need to learn how God uniquely intended for us to spend those hours. What time of the day is your mind most prone to distractions versus action? What time of day are you most focused versus least focused? How much time will you invest in researching to prepare for your assignment? Studies have shown that many people are more creative in the evening and more focused in the late morning. This is a generalization and you may find it opposite for you. Study yourself. Whatever may be the case for you, use that knowledge to plan out how you will get the work done. 

INVITE WISE COUNSEL – Enlisting the insight and knowledge of wise counsel is a critical part of having direction (see Proverbs 11:14). As already mentioned, you may have to start alone but you don’t have to stay alone. The wisdom of others is where you will find clarity, confidence, and community. This may be a spouse, friend, clergy member, coach, mentor, etc. The goal is for you to get insight and input from someone you can trust and who cares about you. This person should also be willing to truthfully share from their experience, education, and spiritual wisdom. The decision will ultimately be up to you, but having wise counsel helps you make a more informed and thought-out choice as you prepare to take action. 

OUTLINE YOUR OPTIONS – Part of taking action is knowing which action to take. Often we are given more than one good option which can somehow lead us to our destination. There is always a risk associated with any action, so outlining the options is how we can assess the risk. Taking the time to write down what options we have been given, what wise counsel has shared, and how the options may impact our future will help make the best decision. Every good opportunity is not a God opportunity. Cover your outline in prayer as God settles your anxiousness about making the right decision.

NAME YOUR DECISION – Study long; study wrong. It is time to make a decision. You do not have to have all the answers to make a decision. Once you have done all the work, trust that whatever choice you settle on, God is going to be with you. Making a decision is how you make it to your final destination. Speak out in boldness what you have decided to do and lay all other options to rest. See how God gets to put His SUPER on your natural! Remember God can do so much more with your willingness than He could ever do with your worthiness. Make the decision to take action!
